Information about the UK National Health System:

Citizens within the UK have the National Health Service which is the largest employer in the Europe Union. Foreigners who have been transferred to the UK by their employer and students enrolled in a course of study for longer than 6 months are entitled to join. The system accommodates accident and emergency care very well, but for urgent and elective surgery there can be long waits.

British Citizens Leaving or Residing Abroad, as of 2004 the NHS rules changed:

As of May 2004, UK Citizens that are not "ordinarily resident" i.e. those people that live in other countries, are not entitled to free NHS treatment. Pensioners that reside outside of the UK part of the year in an EEA country that are not registered in that country are still eligible for NHS cover. This means if you are a UK citizen residing outside of the UK, you must buy private medical insurance. NHS hospitals have a duty to charge and collect payment if you are non-resident.

ProtExPlan is administered in the UK with offices in West Sussex. If you want to return to the UK for medical treatment, our staff is available to assist you with local arrangements. They have many years of experience and close ties with UK medical insititutions.
